Considering this, Jay's story makes no sense, and the events he described could not have logically taken place. In this episode Laura, Adnan and Jay's friend, states that they were no payphones outside of Best Buy.
Micayla: This episode provided a significant amount of information to further confirm my believe that Adnan is completely innocent of Hae's murder. This shows that he is a hard working individual who could not have committed a crime of this extent. In jail, Adnan admits that he should’ve been more sensible by not lending his car or phone to Jay. The judge said that Adnan planned and manipulated the entire event. No one, not even the judge, has any belief that Adnan is innocent. However, in the post-trial letters, Adnan tells Christa that he is losing faith in himself. Adnan seems relaxed and friendly in these letters, showing his innocence. It seems impossible for Adnan to have done something like this and not speak of it in their letters. The letters written between Christ and Adnan were usually upbeat and friendly. Christa didn’t think Adnan committed this crime. When he was in jail, Adnan wrote comforting letters to his good friend, Christa. In the court trial, detectives speaking to Adnan tried to influence him by saying that they “know what he did,” while, in fact, they actually had no proof whatsoever. Later, when Adnan and his friends found out that Hae was murdered, Adnan was crying with them- true emotions. This also explains his nervous demeanour. He could’ve acted this way because he had weed in his car that he didn’t want the cops to find if they wanted to speak with him. This could explain the manner in which Adnan was acting- suspicious, wary of cops. Aisha, another friend, says that she spoke to Adnan around this time. Kathy, Adnan’s friend, said that Adnan answered a call and appeared very agitated. Multiple other people say that it is impossible for Hae to have been able to make it to Best Buy in that amount of time. This shows that the timeline of events does not add up. Multiple other friends of Hae say that she was at school at the time that the police think she was killed. In addition, their friend Summer stated that Hae was supposed to be at a game, and at the supposed time of her death, Summer says that Hae was at school, talking to her. This shows that Jay was making up a story to make him appear innocent. Laura said that there were absolutely no payphones outside of Best Buy. The first, for example, is Adnan and Jay’s friend Laura. There are many instances within the episode which prove his innocence. Chris Kane: After listening to Episode 9 of Serial, I have come to the conclusion that Adnan is completely innocent of the murder of Hae.
